Earlier this summer, the SWALEC Stadium, the home of Glamorgan Cricket, was in the international media spotlight, having hosted the successful 1st npower Ashes Test Match.
However, on July 23rd , the SWALEC Stadium hosted an equally important event when the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown and his cabinet held their first ever meeting in Wales. Prime Minister Gordon Brown opened his meeting praising the Club on their success of the Ashes:
“It is a pleasure for all of us, the Cabinet, to be here to congratulate Wales first of all, to congratulate Cardiff, to congratulate the Glamorgan Cricket Club for hosting the first Ashes Test, the first time an Ashes Test had been held here in Wales.
You did it so magnificently that I believe tourists from around the world will flock to Cardiff and to Wales as a result of that. To all those who were responsible for all of that, the congratulations of all the Cabinet. Thank you all very much.”
In additional to proving itself as a venue capable of hosting high profile international sporting events, the £14 million stadium has quickly established itself as one of Wales’ leading conferencing and events venues.
The SWALEC Stadium regularly host major events and this year alone they have hosted the British and Irish Summit, The Welsh Conservative Party Conference and the BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year. In addition to political conferences, the SWALEC Stadium are an established training and conference centre and are now the training venue of choice for John Lewis as it rolls out its training programme for the 700 staff it will employ in its new Cardiff store, which opens on Sept 24th.
With 8 large function suites and 22 executive boxes, the SWALEC Stadium offers clients brand new state of the art event suites and provides the much needed diversity that is often a requirement from clients.
Commenting on Gordon Brown’s visit, the SWALEC Stadium’s Hospitality Director, Craig Walsh said;

We have an excellent relationship with the Welsh Assembly Government and regularly host government meetings. It was a great honour to welcome the Prime Minster and his cabinet to the SWALEC Stadium.”
